Job Requirements

The job holder will work as a member of the R&D RRP Research Centre team driving creative innovation to meet current and future JTI business requirements as well as JTG Group strategy. The role requires in depth knowledge and experience of aerosol generating processes and devices to enable technology development, supporting existing and new reduced risk products and processes' development.

 

Included in the key tasks are:

  • Provide the necessary expertise in aerosol generating devices to develop principles, concepts and technical solutions that can be utilised to enhance current and develop future reduced risk products.
  • Assess feasibility of ideas to determine if they have merit in supporting JTG technology strategy including risk reduction, taste, safety/reliability, social acceptability and manufacturability. Ideas can be generated internally (R&D, other functions) or externally from other industries, trade fairs or competitors.
  • Manage development of novel technology from research activities resulting in reports, experimental data, prototypes and Proof of Principle (PoP) models.
  • Work collaboratively with JT R&D, and other RRP team members to ensure that activities are aligned and prioritised and ensure that objectives are met within expected timelines through effective project management.
  • Build and maintain relationships with 3rd party development partners including consultants, industry associations (CORESTA), external laboratories and universities. 
  • Support toxicological and clinical studies as required.
  • Work closely with IP teams to maximise JTI Intellectual Property creation from technology development projects and initiatives.

     

Skills and Knowledge required

  • Advanced degree in a related scientific discipline (Chemistry, Physics, Biochemistry or Pharmaceutical Sciences preferred) is required (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in an electronics, pharmaceutical, chemical or biotechnology R&D environment is required
  • Experience working with aerosol generating devices such as electronic cigarettes, dry powder inhalers, metered dose inhalers, nebulisers and sprays is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and across functional boundaries to complete projects within required timeframes
  • Must be able to provide technical assistance to others in a range of laboratory based activities/techniques
  • Exceptional communication skills; including the ability to effectively translate complex technical concepts to others
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage key projects efficiently and effectively
  • A track record of innovation and Intellectual Property generation and experience with consumer electronic devices is desirable
  • Excellent working knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • An aptitude for problem solving
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritising and handling multiple tasks, whilst maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and a positive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Regular travel mainly within UK/EU, Geneva and Asia.
