Position Purpose

This position is responsible for managing JTI USA's Regulatory and Legislative Monitoring and Communication Program, ensuring an efficient and consistent approach to collecting, evaluating and communicating tobacco regulation developments in the USA. More specifically, this position is responsible for managing the company's regulatory monitoring network, information collection, regulatory trends analysis and resources to provide management with relevant and actionable information to address Federal regulatory issues. 


Position is located in Washington, DC


Responsibilities and Requirements 

  • Responsible for developing and managing the US regulatory processes, tools and resources with an emphasis on current and future FDA regulations.
  • Further expand our relationships with key Federal lawmakers and their staff.
  • Identify opportunities for legislators willing to introduce our preferred advocacy positions.
  • Expand our relationships through consistent outside engagement with federal lawmakers and their staff.  
  • Assist CA&C Director in the development of Company views and positions regarding public issues which have a significant impact on the company's Operating Environment.
  • Participate in industry and agency meetings and conferences to present company views and positions to ensure adequate company Share of Voice.
  • Coordinate and manage contacts with outside counsel and advisors on legal issues such as licensing, interpretation of regulations, excise tax, and trademark issues. Manage relationships with federal lobbyists.
  • Monitor and analyze compliance/regulatory trends. Develop internal reports and presentations regarding the status of various legal and regulatory issues for management. Continue building on successful informational material that can be presented clearly and concisely to policymakers. 
  • Manage various tasks and projects as they arise and upon the manager’s request.


Minimum Qualifications 

  • Minimum BA with specialization in political science, law, economics, marketing, public relations, communication or relevant work experience.
  • Management of public policy issues. 3 years work experience in regulatory affairs required.
  • Candidates with experience in the tobacco, pharma or other regulated industry preferred.
  • Strong English communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Data management skills required.
