WHAT THIS POSITION IS ABOUT - PURPOSE

The incumbent is in charge of ensuring that regulatory issues and challenges in the operating environment impacting the business, with particular focus on local ordinances and regulations are proactively monitored, anticipated, and effectively addressed. Responsibilities include: monitoring emerging local regulations and developments and providing analyses on their implications to the business; drafting position papers, correspondences, internal and external submissions on regulatory issues; providing functional support to CA team on potential national regulatory issues; providing cross-functional support to M&S on local regulatory issues; ensuring company compliance on all relevant local regulatory requirements; building good working relations with key stakeholders in relevant local government units, media, and the business community; protecting corporate reputation.

 

WHAT WILL YOU DO - RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Stakeholder Management and Engagement

    • Takes the lead in managing and constantly updating a robust stakeholder map that includes all external stakeholders that impact the operating environment, including but not limited to officials in local government units,  non-government organizations, and business communities. Develops and implements a plan to establish, maintain, and further nurture contacts and relationships with these stakeholders.  Leverage stakeholder relationships to support business and operational issues, advocate company positions and protect and promote company reputation.

  • Monitoring of Local Regulatory Environment

    • Responsible for ensuring that the company is up-to-date and knowledgeable with current and forthcoming local regulations and relevant news within his or her area of responsibility. 

  • Advocacy

    • Takes the lead in ensuring that the company advocacy strategy is executed in representations with the local government units within the area of his or her responsibility.  Represents the company with respect to local regulatory and operational concerns;  Participates in and monitors local public hearings, consultations, and other similar fora;  He or she manages the preparation of company position papers, correspondences, and other submissions, establishes points-of-contact and collaborates with external parties including industry groups, academe, media, and other like-minded parties and individuals in the advocacy and promotion of company positions. 

  • CA&C Support

    • Provides support in all other department initiatives such as but not limited to, community investment and corporate sustainability initiatives, and other internal and external engagement initiatives.

  • Operational Support

    • Provides support to other teams such as M&S, Legal, and other JTI entities operating in the market, JTI AMC, and JTI GBS, on operational matters and regulatory issues within the assigned areas of responsibility.

 

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR - REQUIREMENTS:

  • University Degree required; law degree or post-master degree in public administration, political science, or related fields is a plus
  • At least five years combined work experience in Government (executive or legislative branches), law firm, non-governmental organization, public relations or media, or in a private sector role dealing with government and corporate affairs
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CA&C processes 
  • Knowledge of fiscal and tobacco legislation
  • Understanding of the corporate CA&C strategy and corporate values
  • Strong business acumen 
  • Self-motivation
