Corporate Affairs and Communications (CA&C) Director

 

This role is responsible for assessing the operating environment in Malaysia, anticipating changes to the operating environment that creates commercial risk and competitive opportunity for the company, and for the development and implementation of strategies and programs which minimize risk and maximize competitive advantage. The incumbent would interact as an institutional representative of JTI Malaysia with national government stakeholders and influencers and defines, proposes, and implements action plans to protect, maintain and enhance company interests and reputation amongst them. S/he manages the team and provides a regular interface with government institutions and external stakeholders to gather information on political, legislative, and regulatory developments and deliver the company’s views and positions to protect JTI interests, to create and develop a favorable institutional environment for JTI business goals.

 

As an active member of the local leadership team, She/He contributes to the development of the market’s business strategy and plays a key role in all major business decisions made by the leadership team. The role also ensures that all strategies and programs designed to shape the operating environment are integrated into the overall business strategy.

 

As the Corporate Affairs and Communications Director in Malaysia, you will:

  • Collaborate with local leadership, functional, regional and global counterparts to develop policy advocacy campaigns that shape the operating environment, focusing on the fiscal strategy and regulations of the industry to minimize commercial risk and responsibly secure competitive advantage.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies to effectively engage with key individuals and groups who decide, influence or contribute towards public policies, including those from political parties, regulatory, public servants, NGOs and media in a timely and effective manner.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Community Investment strategies that enable the company to contribute to the community in a meaningful and sustainable manner.
  • Lead the development and implementation of external communication strategies to communicate JTI’s corporate brand and support policy advocacy campaigns.
  • Lead the development and implementation of internal communications strategies to engage with all internal stakeholders in a timely and effective manner.
  • Establish clear performance criteria for service providers engaged by the company. Ensure that their strategies and programs are evaluated against agreed-upon performance criteria and objectives and align with JTI's Code of Conduct.
  • Lead, coach and develop Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) team members to achieve the CA&C mission with the highest quality standards.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree completion from a reputed University. A post-graduate degree or professional qualification is an added advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal & influential skills, strong leadership, and teamwork qualities with internal stakeholders
  • Proven experience in public relations/government affairs, with at least 10 years as a head of function in a multinational company, public/government affairs consultancy, or any NGO. Experience in a similar role outside Malaysia is also an added advantage.
  • Experience of developing and writing policy proposals.
  • Experience in evaluating and communicating the impact of legislative or policy proposals.
  • Experience in a leading role in developing and delivering effective policy advocacy campaigns with a good understanding of influencing tactics such as media engagement and mobilization of popular opinion.
  • Experience in leading community investment initiatives to develop corporate reputation programs that support external engagements.
  • Experience of effectively developing, nurturing and managing coalition partners, stakeholders and developing coordinated action to create agreed change.
  • Proficient in both English and Bahasa Malaysia (required). Must have excellent verbal communication skills. Must have experience with MS Office applications (especially MS PowerPoint).
