What is this position is about?

You will lead the Corporate Affairs & Communications Function in JTI Thailand with a focus on: Regulatory issues, Tax strategies, MOPH tobacco issues, Tobacco Association related activities. You will also lead and develop strategies for communication (internal and external), Public Relations,Corporate Image Building, Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainability, and Relationship building with key stakeholders, for the purpose of shaping an operational environments to serve JTI business interest; being prudent and taking into account the local political circumstances, governmental tax revenue needs, and competitive environment.

 

What will you do?

  • Fiscal Strategies
    • Lead and work cross-functionally to form JTI Thailand’s fiscal strategy. Recommends, plans, develops, and implements Fiscal and Tax Affairs strategies and relevant programs, interacting with relevant stakeholders to shape the political and regulatory environment based on the guidelines agreed with the Market GM as well as following JTI global position in order to deploy the Corporate and Regional strategies in the market.
    • Liaises with the Market GM, and the relevant functions of JTI APAC for the local deployment and implementation of global and regional projects at local level.
    • Proposes and manages the budget allocated for the area of responsibility assigned and ensures the correct management, monitoring and variances analyses of the budget assigned, in compliance with JTI policies and procedures.
  • Regulatory Affairs

    • Monitors, analyses, and assesses political, legislative, and regulatory developments to anticipate changes or trends in the operating environment, which may affect JTI's business, supported by the dedicated staff as well as by external consultants. 

    • Supervises the preparation of analyses, background materials and position papers, based on the understanding of regulatory measures and amendments (e.g., Taxation, Health, FCTC, Product Regulation, legislation, Tobacco Growing sector, ESG regulations, T&T, Anti Illicit Trade, etc.) and relevant potential criticalities that may affect JTI's business.

    • Identifies and suggests the optimal way in terms of channel and timing for JTI to present its views and positions or to provide concrete and meaningful solutions.

  • Media Relations

    • Maintain good contacts and communication with the news media, define key messages, influence public opinion to promote JTI’s interests and deliver the company’s messages to balance public debate on tobacco related issues. 

  • Stakeholder Management

    • Coordinates and supervises the activities of external consultants and cooperates with internal/external legal counsel on Corporate Affairs-related matters.

    • Maintain positive relationships with key external influencers and advocating JTI views and positions with political, regulatory and government representatives, to ensure effective communication to key stakeholders in support of the JTI business.

    • Work closely with verticalized functions including but not limited to Japan and Foreign Affairs, AITO and etc to manage stakeholders.

    • Coordinates and supervises the creation and maintenance of an up-to-date stakeholder map for the market, which identifies the key political and regulatory stakeholders, to monitor and assess the development of public and regulatory policies. '

  • People Management

    • Leads, develops, and motivates assigned employees and ensures their effective performance through objectives setting, performance feedback, coaching and mentoring in order to develop people capabilities and ensure their professional development.

  • Communications

    • Supervise the execution of internal communications, programs, and events for internal employees to increase the employee engagement and productivity

    • Develop & guide external communications strategy through managing major media organizations to promote JTI's key messages in different media

    • Content and platform management for JTI Thailand Communications

    • Local media relations and work closely with JTI global media relations team by providing JTI Thailand statement

    • Issue management

  • Other

    • Assists in localizing and global/regional CA&C priorities in line with developing local strategies as and when required 

    • Community Investment related activities                                                                                                                                                

 

Who are we looking for?

  • Minimum 10-12 years expertise in related field of government, law firm, FMCG
  • A clear demonstration of previous commercial experiences and accomplishments either as a Corporate Affairs Director or as Head of a business function is highly desirable
  • Previous Tobacco industry experience will be an advantage as well as understanding the regulatory environment and industry dynamics
  • Master degree or higher, preferably in Legal, MBA, Economics, Politics or similar
  • Native Thai, Fluent English
  • Excellent interpersonal & influential skills, strong leadership, teamwork qualities, and exposure to one or more of Asia's developed markets are highly desirable
