Benelux Communications and Community Investment Manager

Amstelveen, 39 hours per week


As our industry faces an ever more restrictive environment we rely on the expertise and experience of outstanding communications professionals to maintain and build our company’s reputation. Your challenge within this demanding communications arena is to develop a professional yet lively approach to internal communications as well as a serious and precise approach to external communications that target external stakeholders regarding Corporate Investment and Corporate Sustainability programs. In doing so you work closely with our Corporate Affairs (CA) managers in Amstelveen and Brussels and you report to the CA Director in Amstelveen, with a dotted reporting line to the CA Director in Belgium. You also liaise with a range of specialist communication consultancies. You will typically spend two days per week at our office near Brussels.


You make a multi-facing and positive contribution to our company performance and reputation via a number of core activities:


Internal Communications

You innovate and promote internal communications that catch the eye of our international work force. Thus you:

  • Develop, plan and implement strategy for internal communications in BELUX and NL, in cooperation with the People & Culture department;
  • Improve the internal communication mix (Workplace/ Facebook, Business TV, corporate brochure/ materials, etc.);
  • Organize internal communication events/activities;
  • Evaluate internal communication initiatives and strive for continuous improvement.


External Communications

You develop, plan and implement the strategy for external communication in BENELUX. This requires you to:

  • Develop and publish trade communication (newsletters, press releases, advertisements) in close cooperation with Marketing & Sales;
  • Develop and publish corporate (branding) communication in close cooperation with the People & Culture department;
  • Monitor (social) media and provide recommendations to the Directors CA&C.


Community Investment/Corporate Sustainability 

You ensure that JTI CI and CS initiatives and their results are communicated to JTI employees using the full range of internal communication tools. In doing so you:

  • Act as the contact person towards Community Investment partners and CS across Benelux markets;
  • Provide recommendations to explore new and innovative CI partners/projects;
  • Manage current and new CI projects;
  • Create social capital by exploring network events in cooperation with CI partners.

Use your all round communications and PR experience to build our international reputation

Given all of the above tasks this is a highly responsible role with a substantial degree of autonomy in which you communicate to a number of different audiences. The role also demands societal and cultural understanding, strong analytical skills and a sense of accuracy. Writing skills are essential as you convey precise and careful messages within a sensitive and rapidly evolving product and PR environment.

In order to deliver this you must already possess the following attributes:

  • A university or Bachelor degree in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism/Media;
  • At least five years of experience in a managerial position within a Communications department or within a PR or Media agency;
  • Advanced language skills including fluent English and fluent French or Dutch (all three languages is a significant plus);
  • Event management experience and planning and organization skills;
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
