GOVERNMENT RELATIONS & COMMUNICATION MANAGER (6 months Contract)

 

What this position is about – Purpose

This position is responsible for the anticipation and assessment of change in the political, legislative, and regulatory environment which creates commercial risk and competitive opportunity for the company in the market (Jordan and Palestine), and for the development and implementation of strategies and programs which minimize risk and maximize advantage in a responsible, proactive manner.

 

What will you do – Responsibilities:

 

  • Monitor and assess political, legislative, and regulatory developments to anticipate changes or trends in the Operating Environment that will create commercial risk and competitive advantage. Ensure that these developments are communicated immediately to the Market Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications, and as required, to the General Manager and members of the market ExCom
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the political and legislative process, including the mechanisms through which draft laws and other regulatory instruments are designed, introduced, and debated. Identify the specific timing and channels through which JTI can present its views and positions, or through which JTI can provide practical, meaningful solutions in a responsible, proactive manner
  • Develop, recommend, and manage approved political and regulatory strategies to ensure that the company’s positions, views, and potential solutions are presented in a timely, effective and consistent manner
  • Create, develop, and maintain an up-to-date stakeholder map for the market(s), which identifies key political and regulatory stakeholders, as well as widen the existing stakeholder base in the areas that are crucial to JTI business in Jordan and Palestine. Develop and maintain working contacts with mid- and high-level officials relevant to the Corporate Affairs & Communications Director's responsibilities
  • Utilize the stakeholder map to monitor and assess the development of public and regulatory policy, and to develop effective strategies to ensure that JTI’s views and positions are communicated in a timely, effective, and consistent manner to the top-level stakeholders
  • If applicable, comply with JTI Policies & Procedures in the Purchase Request process and perform J-SOX controls as specified in the J-SOX Global Reference Model  

 

Whom are we looking for – Requirements:

 

  • University graduate or above
  • Multi-year experience in a similar role with a large international company, or significant local firm, is highly desirable; Government Relations experience is strongly preferred.  Understanding of the commercial environment in Jordan; familiarity with issues faced by multinational corporations operating in Jordan, and the tobacco industry in particular
