Job Requirements


The job holder will work as a member of the Research & Development (R&D) Reduced Risk Products (RRP) team providing leadership and support for the design, development, and optimisation of reduced risk products to meet current and futureI business requirements as well as wider business strategy. This role requires management of firmware and software design and verification and its integration with electronics and mechanical design. Additionally the role is required to manage software technology standards developed internally or as a result of regulations and / or best practice.


Included in the key tasks are:


  • Provide the necessary expertise in software design and implementation to develop suitable technical features and functionalities into products/prototypes in line with project objectives and business requirements.
  • Manage and/or develop the technical standards relating to software providing the product development team with clear direction on what and how technology can be used during the development process. These standards could be generated internally, from best practice or as a result of regulations or international standards
  • Support the product development team by developing relevant input to technical requirements, development plans, risk management, verification and validation tests for prototypes and final specification of device.
  • Working with IT department, manage device-related Bluetooth protocols and test requirements for devices with smartphone App functionality.
  • Manage vendor relationships with external development partners and coordinate development activities with key suppliers.
  • Manage and communicate firmware and software version change control for devices and consumables (where relevant) ensuring traceability through SAP.
  • Seek to maximise Intellectual Property creation.


Skills and Knowledge required:


  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and across functional boundaries to complete projects within required timeframes
  • Exceptional communication skills; including the ability to effectively translate complex technical concepts to others
  • Collaborate and clearly communicate with external partners and cross functional teams
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage key projects efficiently and effectively
  • A track record of innovation and Intellectual Property generation and experience with consumer electronic devices are desirable
  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Software Engineering or related Engineering discipline or equivalent scientific ability based on relevant experience and appropriate education.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience preferably working in development roles for a consumer electronics industry.
  • Proven software experience, including design and implementation.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills at all levels
  • Flexible ‘can do’ attitude and ability to work successfully in a close team environment
  • The role will require regular travel and in particular to Geneva, China and Japan.
