Job Requirements


The job holder will work as a member of the R&D RRP Technology Centre team providing leadership and support for the design, development, and optimisation of reduced risk products to meet current and future JTI business requirements as well as JT / JTI Group strategy.

With specific focus on electronic design, battery and power management and associated specifications, this role will require close co-ordination with other R&D Technology Managers, Project Managers and other JTI functions, including internal regulatory and supply chain teams.


Included in the key tasks are:


  • Providing the necessary expertise in electronics to develop technical solutions and deliver acceptable products / prototypes in line with project objectives and business requirements.
  • Participating in design review meetings and risk management activities, during the development process.
  • Leading electronic design of reduced risk products ensuring that the overall design, PCB layouts and components meet technical and functional requirements and are appropriately specified.
  • Supporting the generation / advancement of novel electronics technology working closely with other R&D Technology Managers and internal regulatory teams to ensure regulatory acceptability.
  • Establishing electronic technology platforms which can be used across different products.
  • Developing internal and external testing and verification procedures for the electronic testing and assessment of prototypes including battery performance, PCBA testing and related testing with software / firmware and mechanical design.
  • Manage vendor relationships with external development partners and coordinate development activities with key suppliers.
  • Seek to maximise JTI Intellectual Property creation.


Skills and Knowledge required


  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and across functional boundaries to complete projects within required timeframes
  • Exceptional communication skills; including the ability to effectively translate complex technical concepts to others
  • Ability to work successfully in a close team environment, demonstrating initiative and a positive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage key projects efficiently and effectively
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills at all levels
  • Excellent working knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or closely related engineering discipline or equivalent ability based on relevant experience and education.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience preferably working in development roles for a consumer electronics industry.
  • Experience working with PCB design, electronic schematics, selection of microprocessors and integrated circuits, battery design / selection, component selection and FMEA is highly desirable.
  • The role will require regular travel and in particular to Geneva, China and Japan.
