Legal Director Baltics
Position
This position involves providing advice on all legal and compliance matters affecting the business of the company in the Baltics cluster (Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia), with the aim of achieving corporate and commercial objectives in a way that ensures business opportunities and competitive advantage while complying with all applicable laws and regulations. The person will assist the strategic development of the business, manage legal risks effectively, and provide legal advice and support to drive business and operational effectiveness. They will work closely with individuals across the company to ensure appropriate awareness and management of legal matters and associated risks. The person will be part of the Baltic Cluster Leadership Team and will report directly to the AGC WE Vice President, with a dotted line to the General Manager for UAB JTI Baltic.
Responsibilities
- LEGAL ADVICE, COMPLIANCE & BUSINESS COMMITTMENTS: Define the legal department strategy in line with commercial objectives and provide pro‑active, value‑adding legal advice that supports business commitments, secures competitive advantage, manages risks effectively, and ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Advise the local and regional Leadership Team and the wider business promptly on applicable laws and regulatory matters so they are fully considered in both business plans and strategic planning.
- COMPLIANCE OTHER: Advising on competition law and related matters, GDPR and data privacy, economic sanctions, transparency and bribery obligations, including arrangement of appropriate employee compliance training on applicable regulations. Ensuring and auditing compliance with JTI policies & procedures and laws. Taking part in legal analysis of JTI strategic planning and business projects, and identifying and managing the legal risks involved and finding solutions to achieve commercial objectives in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- LEGAL SUPPORT: Provide advice to Marketing and Sales concerning proposed marketing, sales and operational initiatives including solution orientated advice on product and packaging related legal issues making sure all relevant personnel understand the legislative requirements and restrictions that apply and that the business is in full compliance at all times with all applicable laws and regulations. Drafting, reviewing and negotiating general commercial contracts and advising senior management on same. Advising on litigation and dispute resolution strategies. Managing all other areas of law as necessary including: employment, IT, health & safety, advertising, labelling, consumer protection, company secretarial. Managing the work of external counsel and planning, reviewing and managing legal budgets for the same.
- REGULATORY AFFAIRS: Advising on complex and ever increasing tobacco and reduced risk product legislation, including reviewing developments of all relevant legal and regulatory matters and informing the business in a timely mananer on the same. Provide legal support and advice to CA&C concerning regulatory and legislative developments that affect the business and which assists CA&C in development of related advocacy strategies.
- BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP: Build and maintain trusted working relationships within the Local and Regional Leadership Team and wider business. Anticipate, manage and understand business needs, strategic business plans and associated risks so as to provide pro-active and valuable practical advice that helps deliver the business commitments. As part of the Leadership Team participate in and contribute to all major Leadership Team decisions and strategic planning. Working collaboratively as part of a wider JTI legal team to develop training programmes, precedents, guidance notes and updates for all employees and management.
Requirements
- Law Degree from a university, Bar admission is a plus.
- 7+ years of relevant post qualification experience in a law firm or in an (ideally FMCG) international company.
- Fluent in English and Lithuanian.
- Business mindset, strong commercial acumen, and problem-solving attitude. Strong leadership skills.
