Your job mission:

In our R&D department there is an open position as Packaging Technology Manager (m/f/d) based in Trier to fill. The incumbent is responsible for managing and coordinating packaging systems development projects, including new packaging formats and any linked new materials development. Providing expertise/support as a first level contact to Global Supply Chain, Marketing & Sales, Global Innovation & Initiatives and the Research & Development Services Team, reporting to the Packaging Technology Director. This encompasses the timely and accurate execution of project tasks and a continuous reporting of project results of the team as well as efficient and effective management of internal and external interfaces.

Your tasks:

  • Serve as central contact for various stakeholders with regards to packaging system developments (conversion and packing), linked material developments and support the R&D Packaging pillars and Research & Development Services in their implementation
  • Provide technical feasibility studies, proactively develop alternative solutions for new packaging system developments, develop specifications including dimensional drawings in close collaboration with our internal and external partners and organize test materials for new pack formats/pack format changes including respective quotations in a timely, accurate and cost-effective manner
  • Support the sustainability strategy in developing tools / methodologies with the supply base to evaluate new packaging systems against existing systems in the context of printing, conversion and packaging
  • Support the team internal research activities into packaging systems with regards to regular patent reviews and potential patent applications, identification of new suppliers, materials and technologies leading to potential new ideas for innovation projects

 

Your profile:

  • Relevant educational background: University degree (bachelor or higher) in Packaging, Packaging Materials, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Polymer Science or Engineering; related field of study or relevant experience in industry field will be considered as an alternative to a degree
  • Practical experience: Several years of experience in the packaging industry within the FMCG sector as a Packaging Technologist or Packaging Material Developer (m/f/d). A management background with experience in the cigarette packaging industry would be a plus. Comprehensive project management experience from planning to realization
  • Valuable knowledge: Knowledge and experience in the field of sustainable packaging and Life Cycle Assessment Tools
  • Special strengths: Excellent technical skills in the specification, development and implementation of packaging materials as well as packaging systems. Computer literacy; SAP, PLM and MS Office
  • Suitable personality: Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills. Good communication and presentation skills, as well as team oriented. Open minded, ready to learn new things and flexible attitude
  • Language skills: Excellent English knowledge both written and spoken; additional foreign language knowledge is advantageous, preferably German
  • Flexible and willing to travel
  • Practiced working time model: flextime
