Position Purpose:


JTI USA is currently seeking a Product Compliance Manager to join our organization. The primary purpose of this position is to support JTI USA's efforts to market its products in full compliance with all regulatory and legislative requirements. This would include managing and leading numerous project teams to ensure that JTI USA is implementing the programs necessary to stay in full compliance with these quickly changing requirements, as well as developing and managing processes and procedures that identify and monitor the relevant changes to these requirements.


This position is based in our Teaneck, NJ office.



  • Develop and implement processes and procedures to ensure JTI USA is properly licensed and registered pursuant to Federal and State law, including managing and leading project teams to improve JTI USA's current programs. Develop programs to properly monitor licensing or registration renewals as well as the changing reporting requirements for applicable Federal and State laws/regulations.  
  • Lead JTI's efforts to comply with all FDA, FTC and other regulatory agencies' reporting requirements, including any current requirements as well as any new requirements arising from potential FDA Marketing Orders for JTI USA products.  Develop processes and procedures to properly liaise with the internal stakeholders necessary in order to gather data required by the FDA or other regulators, and to ensure a smooth transfer of this data in the proper format to the FDA or other regulators.  
  • Maintain direct line of communication with regulators and develop good working relationships with applicable external stakeholders, including regulators, governmental authorities, external legal counsel, corporate services suppliers and other external vendors who can assist JTI in meeting its legal obligations and can facilitate the proper filing of documents.
  • Research and monitor legal and regulatory requirements in order to keep JTI up-to-date with all applicable changes in legislation, regulations, rules, guidance and best practices.  Ensure all filings meet the necessary form, substance and timelines required. Provide regular updates to the Legal Director and other market management personnel of issues relevant to JTI's product compliance and legal obligations.  Prepare and present training to JTI personnel on these product compliance requirements as necessary.  
  • When changes are made to legislation and/or regulation (including taxation), ensure that JTI is implementing the necessary processes and procedures to address these changes.  This will be accomplished by the Product Compliance Manager leading or setting up various implementation projects that ensure the proper employees are incorporating the necessary changes in our processes and procedures.
  • Lead the legal approval portion of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) projects, including new launches, promotional & regulatory packaging and or product related changes for the US market.  Work with cross-functional teams (e.g., Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics and Research & Development) to support the PLM process, including the proper routing and approval of new artwork and designs.
  • Conduct research and administrative tasks as requested by the Legal Director and assist with monitoring, inspections, audits and analysis related to JTI's processes & procedures, facilities, sales programs, marketing programs, financial programs and logistics


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Post-graduate degree or law degree is a plus
  • Project management experience.  Working knowledge of consumer goods sales and manufacturing processes.  Experience working in a highly regulated industry, including complying with reporting, licensing and registration requirements for government agencies; tobacco or FDA-regulated experience preferred.  Regulatory or legal experience preferred, but not mandatory.
