Position Purpose

Our organization is presently seeking an Accounting Associate to join our Finance team. This is a 12-18 month contract position . The purpose of this position is to ensure accuracy and effectiveness of accounting systems including cash and accounts receivable for JTI entities (JTIDF, JTINA, JTIH) and assistance with JTIUSA. The Accounting Associate will also be responsible for timely and accurate processing of month-end closing and quarterly reporting, monthly key account reconciliation, monitoring GL accounts and resolving issues, preparation and analysis of financial statements and monthly tobacco tax return filings.


This position is based in our Teaneck, NJ office.


Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Accounting - Main accountant for JTI's entities (ie. JTIDF, JTINA, JTIH) and assistance with JTIUSA. Submit Business Service Center (BSC) excel templates of journal entries and ensure accounting bookings are posted accurately.  Perform month-end closing processes accurately and timely.  Preparation of financial statements.
  • Cash and Accounts Receivable -  Daily review of bank transactions, deposits, cash balances, and record cash movements.  Monitor accounts receivable by customer, ensure collection and any returned payments are handled immediately, and submit monthly receivables reports.  Creation of customers in SAP and create sundry credit notes.  Analyze credit limits for customers.
  • Reporting and Controls-  Complete Monthly Key Account Reconciliations and quarterly reporting by deadlines.  Perform baseline controls work.  Provide documents for internal audits, responding to requests from internal auditors, and implementation of recommended audit findings if necessary.
  • Tax filings - Monthly compliance tax filings with States and Federal government for tobacco tax returns.
  • Finance Back-Up - Back-up for Accounts Payable Associate and other Accountants as needed.
  • Other Projects - Perform and support requests of additional duties or special projects from Manager as necessary.


Qualifications and Experience

  • 4 year BA/BS Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business.
  • 0-2 Years of accounting experience, preferably in multi-national consumer goods organization.  Well-rounded accountant.
  • Working knowledge of Excel.  SAP experience highly preferred.
  • Fluency in English, with excellent written and oral skills.
