Agronomy Technician Trainees X 5 Positions
What this position is about – Purpose:
The purpose of the position is to build relationships and provide extension services to all JTI contracted growers to deliver on the target crop, sustainability and ESG commitments in line with the annual strategic plans. The role will require the incumbent to conduct regular farmer visits and training courses to ensure MAS (Minimum Agricultural Standards) and MFS (Minimum Forestry Standards) implementation, deliver on efficiency improvements and provide accurate volume, crop estimates and quality projections as part of their training development journey.
MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Grower contracting:
Establish the required grower base within the allocated growing area to meet JTI contracting volume and quality needs.
2.Grower visitations:
Provide extension services that will monitor crop production from contracting through to marketing, driving grower performance improvements in support of JTI's target crop and ESG sustainability objectives.
3.Sustainability:
Support and monitor implementation of the JTI Barn upgrade program and deliver the required barn upgrades for the targeted production area and contracted growers Primary Society.
4.Data Management:
Participate in accurate and timely data collection as required for each crop phase, including forestry and barn programs.
5.Employee Health and Safety, assets, and security:
Understand the Health and Safety risks and follow all operational controls to prevent incidents, actively participate in health and Safety training programs, understand legal and JTI EHS requirements associated with their work and comply with all rules.
6.Agriculture labor practice:
Monitor and manage Agricultural Labor Practice observations, reporting, and follow-up. Monitoring, reporting, and elimination of non-compliant Agricultural Labor Practices (ALP) - Support ARISE initiatives launched in designated area.
Education: University Degree in Agriculture, Extension services or a related field
PC skills: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
Languages: English (Speak, Read, Write), Swahili (Speak, Read, Write)
Practical experience:
Experience of 1 year or less in the tobacco industry is an added advantage.
Great Communication skills and Presentation skills
Ability to ride a motorcycle and with a valid driving license for motorcycle.
