Legal Manager
We are looking for a Legal Manager to provide advice on all legal and compliance matters affecting JTI's business across the Nordic cluster (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland), with the aim of achieving corporate and commercial objectives in a way that ensures business opportunities and competitive advantage while complying with all applicable laws and regulations. The person will assist the strategic development of the business, manage legal risks effectively, and provide legal advice and support to drive business and operational effectiveness. They will work closely with individuals across the company to ensure appropriate awareness and management of legal matters and associated risks.
Responsibilities
- Legal Advisory – Providing legal advice across commercial, regulatory, corporate, marketing, and operational matters to facilitate business decision-making while ensuring legal risk is identified, monitored, and controlled.
- Compliance – Monitoring legal and regulatory developments across the Nordic markets and advising the business on potential impacts. Supporting legal and compliance risk management, including competition law and compliance programmes, and ensuring adherence to local requirements in each jurisdiction.
- External Counsel – Coordinating with external legal counsel and relevant authorities on litigation, investigations, and disputes to protect the company's interests and minimize exposure.
- Corporate Governance – Maintaining corporate governance documentation and ensuring compliance with local company law requirements across the Nordic entities.
- Contract Management – Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and other legal documents to ensure validity, enforceability, and protection of company interests in all commercial transactions.
- Business Partnership – Building and maintaining trusted working relationships within the business. Anticipating, managing, and understanding business needs, strategic plans, and associated risks to provide proactive and valuable practical advice that helps deliver business commitments. Working collaboratively as part of the wider JTI legal team to develop training programmes, precedents, guidance notes, and updates for employees and management.
Requirements
- Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, or Finland. Admission to the bar is meritorious.
- At least 3+ years of post-qualification experience within a law firm, the public sector, or an in-house role in a regulated industry.
- Fluency in one of the Scandinavian languages and English (written and spoken).
- Strong legal judgment and commercial awareness.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Pragmatic, solution-oriented approach and ability to work across different jurisdictions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
