CUSTOMS & INTERNATIONAL TRADE MANAGER

 
Position purpose:  

 

You as a customs and international trade expert will manage the increasing international trade activities of our US entities. As a customs expert, you will be responsible for managing specific customs topics such as Duty Drawback and TIB (Temporary Importation under Bond), as well as HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) classification, customs valuation, FTA’s (Free Trade Agreements) and TRQ’s (Tariff Rate Quotas). You will be a member of the verticalized tax function within JTI and report to the global customs and excise director.

You will work closely with various (local) stakeholders to ensure that all aspects of customs and trade compliance of our US entities are met. You will be responsible for ensuring that all customs regulations are followed and that all trade compliance requirements are met, while seizing opportunites to improve our business, optimize processes and be involved with our US tax strategy.

 

What will you do – responsibilities: 

 

  • As the customs and international trade manager, you will be responsible for the accuracy of import and export declarations, considering classification, valuation and origin optimization. You will also manage our first sale reporting, TRQ’s and TIB imports and be responsible for the filling of timely and accurate reconciliation returns for consumption and TIB import entries;
  • In addition, you will manage the duty drawback process in close cooperation with our 3rd party drawback broker. You will work with other departments to optimize the process to prepare the duty drawback claims. You will provide accurate reporting on the status to various stake holders. You will proactively identify (future) opportunities to reclaim duties paid on imports;
  • You will create the customs part of the indirect tax compliance manual and share the responsibility for maintenance of the manual with the indirect tax manager;
  • You will be the first point of contact in the US for customs . You will manage customs audits, set up and maintain SOP's for customs and drawback brokers and resolve their questions;
  • You will stay current on import and export regulations and other applicable governmental initiatives. You will actively inform the business on relevant changes in the field of customs & international trade and corresponding risks and opportunities.

 
Who are we looking for – requirements: 

 

  • More than 7 years experience with US customs & trade compliance is required;
  • Experience with Federal excise taxes is desired (experience gained preferably in a multi-national FMCG organization - customs broker / consultancy firm);
  • Bachelor's in Accounting or equivalent;
  • Skilled in financial applications (SAP and MS Excel) is a must;
  • Fluency in English with excellent written and oral skills is a must.
