Indirect Tax Associate
About the Role
The indirect tax associate is responsible for supporting JTI’s indirect tax compliance and reporting obligations. The position involves preparing and filing indirect tax returns; analyzing financial data; staying updated on changes in tax laws and regulations; preparation and filing of business tax registrations; and the review, issuance, and management of tax exemption certificates. Participation in special projects and other duties as required.
What you will do
- Compliance:
- Prepare and file sales/use tax returns; gross receipts tax returns including business & occupation taxes, and commercial activity taxes; property tax returns; and other indirect tax returns as required.
- Ensure the accurate and timely filing of indirect tax returns with various jurisdictions.
- Maintain indirect tax calendars, track filing deadlines, and document indirect tax payments for tax accounting.
- Data Analysis:
- Analyze financial data to determine tax liabilities.
- Reconciliation of tax accounts.
- Assist with audits and respond to tax notices.
- Communication & Collaboration:
- Communicate with various internal stakeholders as directed by the Indirect Tax Manager.
- Work closely with internal departments such as accounting/finance, direct tax, customer service, information technology, and legal as well as others as necessary.
- Collaborate with external service providers as required.
- Contribute to the documentation and creation of departmental training materials for key functions within the business unit
Who We Are Looking For
A dynamic, passionate, and result-oriented person, with:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with an emphasis in accounting;
- 1-3 years’ related experience in indirect tax within a large multi-national company with a strong understanding of indirect tax principles and regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, SAP, and other tax software.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines by effectively prioritizing work.
- Detail oriented with good organizational skills.
- Experience in indirect tax research with the ability to apply the research to the company’s business model.
