Please Join Us In Putney as MATERIAL ASSESSMENT AGILE MANAGER

As SRA (Scientific Regulatory Affairs) Material Assessment Agile Manager, you will play a key role in safeguarding product integrity by ensuring that all ingredients and materials used in JTI products meet our internal standards and comply with local regulatory requirements worldwide. Acting as a trusted technical expert, you will provide scientific and regulatory guidance that directly supports innovation, quality, and compliance across our product portfolio.

Reporting to the SRA Material Assessment Agile Team Director, you will work closely with cross‑functional partners across SRA and JTI R&D, contributing to global initiatives and projects within the Material Assessment Pillar. This is a highly collaborative role, offering exposure to cutting‑edge product development and the opportunity to influence decisions that shape how products are assessed, developed, and launched across markets.

Position

As a Material Assessment Agile Manager, you will:

  • Provide technical and scientific interpretation of global regulatory requirements applicable to JTI products, including regulations governing flavour substances, tobacco ingredients, non‑tobacco ingredients, and materials permitted for manufacture and sale in specific markets
  • Closely collaborate with colleagues from Product & Regulatory Affairs Agile Operations, Corporate Affairs, R&D, and Legal at HQ and in local markets to support the monitoring and interpretation of worldwide technical standards and regulations
  • Conduct regulatory compliance assessments for new ingredients and materials, evaluate regulatory readiness for product launches in new markets, and support the JT Group ingredient evaluation programme. Ensure worldwide regulatory compliance of ingredients and materials used in JTI products
  • Maintain accurate and complete ingredient‑related data in the SRA Secure Database, ensuring availability for the Reporting & Systems team to support global regulatory reporting and pre‑market registrations, as well as for the toxicology team to support their assessments
  • Identify supplier‑related risks from an SRA perspective and provide technical guidance on appropriate risk mitigation measures. During supplier visits and meetings, educate suppliers on SRA requirements, including country‑specific regulatory requirements, and proactively raise identified issues and risks
  • Support senior colleagues in hazard identification and risk assessment activities for new ingredients and materials under evaluation for potential use
  • Collaborate with the Agile Testing and packaging team to define and perform material testing to verify that SRA‑related documentation (e.g. certifications, ingredient disclosures) accurately reflects the materials used. Scientifically and critically assess reports generated by internal and external laboratories or institutes to demonstrate product compliance (e.g. smoke/vapour chemistry, migration studies, product safety testing)
  • Hold responsibility for material qualification activities, including provision of SRA input into PLM systems and support of Change Order approvals in SAP. Work closely with GIP and R&D and support the maintenance of specification systems to ensure the integrity of materials across JTI products

Requirements

  • University degree in a technical or scientific discipline; Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Toxicology preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in scientific and regulatory affairs, preferably within material and ingredient assessment
  • Strong expertise in material and product testing, including smoke/vapour analysis and critical evaluation of test results
  • In‑depth knowledge of global regulations related to tobacco products, reduced‑risk products, and electrical consumer goods
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, with proven experience in the assessment of materials, tobacco products, and reduced‑risk products, including interpretation of testing data (e.g. smoke/vapour chemistry, migration studies, and product safety testing)
  • Strong proficiency in standard PC software (MS Office, SAP, etc.) is required; prior experience with SQL databases is considered an advantage
  • Fluency in English is mandatory. Additional language skills—particularly Chinese, Japanese, French, or German—are an asset
