Tax Manager Myanmar
The purpose of this position role is to lead tax function in Myanmar based on strategic direction and ensuring full compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations in the country. This role serves as a vital link for Market tax strategies, tasked with optimizing the company’s overall tax position through effective planning and execution of robust tax policies. Additionally, he/she will be involved in identifying opportunities for tax benefit and efficiencies, proactively mitigating risks, limiting costs, and building collaborative relationships across Markets stakeholders to integrate tax considerations into the JTI's broader financial and business decisions.
This position will also assist Cluster Tax Director in projects/initiatives relating to other cluster markets in South Asia on an as-needed basis.
Main responsibilities:
- Lead implement tax strategy in line with JTI Policy & Procedures
- Manage tax risks for countries in scope and implement measures to reduce/mitigate tax risks
- Proactively manage tax implications from legislation changes or business changes
- Supervise tax/customs audits and tax litigations
- Lead and manage tax team and ensure team development
As the Tax Manager in the area of Global Tax, you will:
Manage implementation of tax strategy, policies and procedures, tax risk analysis. Mitigate tax risks and identify opportunities to improve tax efficiency.
- Ensure that global and local tax requirements are properly reflected in internal processes, monitor compliance on an ongoing basis, and drive remediation where gaps are identified.
- Mitigate tax risks and proactively identify opportunities to improve tax efficiency and support business objectives.
Manage tax angles of business models set up, sourcing changes, new business flows and conversions. Communicate and coordinate with the stakeholders e.g. Finance, GSC, Legal, CA&C.
- Provide tax input at the planning stage of new initiatives, assess the tax implications of proposed structures, and recommend compliant and efficient solutions.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with key stakeholders to ensure alignment and timely implementation.
Manage reguler tax compliance and lead tax audits (both direct and indirect taxes). Communicate with tax authorities and tax advisor as the point of contact.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation, review and filing of tax returns, tax computations, provisions and payments for both direct and indirect taxes, in line with local legislation and Group requirements.
- Act as the main point of contact with tax and customs authorities as well as external tax advisors, ensuring consistent and well-supported positions.
- Oversee the preparation of responses, documentation and appeals, assess potential exposures, and develop strategies to resolve disputes in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Lead, guide, motivate the verticalized tax team. Ensure development and growth of the team and provide proper training.
- Set clear objectives and priorities, provide coaching and constructive feedback, and ensure effective collaboration within the team and with other functions.
- Drive the development and growth of team members through on-the-job learning and targeted training, building a strong succession pipeline.
Assist the Cluster Tax Director in tax projects relating to other cluster markets in South Asia, when requested.
- Contribute technical input and local market insights to the projects, reviews and restructurings, ensuring consistency with cluster and global tax strategies.
- Support cross-market coordination, sharing of best practices and harmonization of tax processes across the South Asia cluster.
Requirements:
- University degree in Tax, Finance, or Accounting. LLM or MBA is a plus
- More than 5 years work experience in corporate tax, indirect tax.
