Accounting Associate

 

Purpose of the Role

The position will be responsible to ensure the accuracy, completeness and compliance of the company's statutory accounting, tax reporting and financial records in Mexico, by executing local accounting processes, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting period-end close activities, and ensuring compliance with local legal, tax and corporate requirements. The role acts as a key point of contact between the business, external stakeholders to safeguard financial integrity and support informed business decision-making.

 

Main Areas of Responsibility

 

Daily Transactional Processing

  • Position is a hands role with the emphasis on providing genuine information for the financial accounts preparation and reconciliation, analyzing relevant changes in a regular basis - at local and Corporate level.    
  • Responsible for the accounting function on a day-to-day basis and manage the external accounting  team to ensure all transactional activities are executed accurately, timely and in line wih set policies & procedures, including JSOX.  Ensure records are maintained to support all tax and accounting entries and properly filed and secured in compliance with legal legislation, local tax legislation and JTI guidelines.

 

Monthly Reporting, including JSOX

  • Responsible for completing/ reviewing all month-end processes and JSOX controls related to financial reporting close.
  • Reponsible to calculate, prepare and send intercompanies transactions ( x-charges, postings , invoices, etc.) and ensure all inter-co balances, including PISPIP is fully reconcilied with counter part.                                                                
  • Lead the process to submit IFRS month-end Trial Balances with high quality and on time with the objective to have nil HQ adjustments. Manage the month-end closing checklist to ensure all activities and inputs are provided with quality and on time.
  • Develop monthly reporting which provides detailed analysis to ensure all balances are controlled and provide no P&L exposure. Analysis should be timely and in a format tp support management decision-making. Use variance analysis vs plan to drive improvements in the planning process.

 

Balance Sheet Reconciliations & Internal Controls

  • Prepare and maintain reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts, including receivables, inventory and other assigned accounts.
  • Identify risks, discrepancies and control weaknesses, proposing corrective actions when required.

 

Transactional Efficieny

  • Optimize reports, interfaces and automatize as much as possible operating activities  in Local ERP.                                                                                                                                    
  • Support for local accounting ERP systems maintenance and upgrades.
  • Proactively work with external ERP providor to look at system enhancements.
  • Work with the business to eliminate transactional processing waste e.g. incorrect POs, late GRs, missing infomration, etc.
  • Booking of provision and tax payments ( offset and netting). 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required

  • Higher Education in Finance, Accounting or Administration MBA or equivalent educational background (desirable).
  • 2 years in multinational companies in planning and financial analysis preferably experience in FMCG industry. 
  • Previous experience in data analysis, reporting and working in crossfunctional teams.
  • Fluent oral and written English.
  • Excellent Knowledge of Excel.
  • Knowledge & experience with SAP and other Accounting System desired.
