GOVERNANCE & PLATFORM ARCHITECTURE MANAGER

              Governance & Platform Architecture Manager 

Purpose : 

This position sits within the Digital Technology Department, inside the Global Development Center (GDC), supporting the evolution of the DES ecosystem and its global digital platforms.As Governance & Platform Architecture Manager, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of DES application and backend architecture, with a strong focus on PHP-based applications, APIs, cloud-native services, and modern application platforms. You will work with the latest technologies, including AI and AI-assisted engineering, while influencing how applications are designed, built, operated, and modernized.The role provides a high degree of technical autonomy to explore new technologies, challenge existing approaches, run experiments and proofs of concept, and initiate new ideas that can deliver real value. Beyond defining architecture standards, you will be encouraged to experiment, innovate, and help determine what technologies DES should adopt next.Working closely with Backend Engineering, Frontend Engineering, Integration, DevOps, Security, and IAM teams, you will combine hands-on architecture leadership, solution design, and pragmatic governance to build scalable, secure, resilient, and future-ready digital solutions.

Responsibilities : 

• Application & Backend Architecture : define and evolve application architecture standards across the DES ecosystem. Drive backend architecture strategy for PHP-based applications, APIs, and shared services. Promote reusable patterns, modernization, and technology standardization 

• Solution Design & Technical Leadership: lead architecture reviews and support engineering teams in designing scalable, maintainable, and cloud-ready solutions. Provide technical guidance for complex initiatives and drive the adoption of modern architecture practices 

• Performance, Resilience & Observability: define architectural standards for scalability, availability, resilience, and performance. Ensure non-functional requirements are addressed early in design and promote consistent observability and monitoring approaches 

• Security & Platform Integration: apply centrally defined Security and IAM strategies within DES applications. Ensure secure-by-design principles are embedded in solution architectures and act as an architectural liaison between DES teams and central functions 

• Architecture Governance & Cross-Team Collaboration: review and validate application designs within DES scope. Work closely with Backend, Frontend, Integration, Magento, and DevOps teams to ensure architectural consistency, technology alignment, and continuous improvement. 

Requirements : 

• University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent strong IT background 

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, or application architecture 

• Strong hands-on experience with PHP application development and architecture 

• Experience with modern PHP frameworks (Laravel is a plus)Proven experience designing large-scale backend applications and distributed systems 

• Experience with REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures 

• Experience with Azure cloud services, containers, and modern application platformsStrong understanding of performance, resilience, observability, and application security 

• Experience defining architecture standards and guiding engineering teams excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
