Operating in Malawi since 1999, JTI Leaf Malawi Limited (JTILM) is part of JTI’s tobacco leaf buying business and is one of the leading tobacco companies in Malawi. An opportunity is currently available for suitably qualified talent to fill the following vacant position in the Leaf Finance Department:

 

Finance Manager

 

Reports to: Leaf Finance Director.

 

The position is responsible for the maintenance and reporting of the Balance Sheet, the Profit & Loss account and all areas of Financial Compliance. This includes working with external auditors and professional advisors to ensure that financial statements and corporate tax are completed and filed in a timely manner.

 

 Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and control financial actuals to produce accurate P&L, Balance Sheet reports and narratives in compliance with IFRS, Companies Act, and local regulations.
  • Prepare financial statements in line with IFRS and Companies Act requirements.
  • Oversee accounting operations, including payables, bank reconciliations, T&E, GL analysis, and leaf inventory valuation in collaboration with global finance teams.
  • Ensure proper expense allocation to cost centers and GL accounts, creating stakeholder awareness and correcting misallocations.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with corporate income tax, transfer pricing, FBT, PAYE, VAT, Customs duties and managing external stakeholders;
  • Lead and develop the team members.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in Accounting/Finance. Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Registered member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM)
  • 3 to 5 years in a managerial position. Experience in a manufacturing entity or external audit experience in a reputable firm will be an added advantage.
  • ERP accounting packages, MS Excel.
  • Strong Leadership, communication, planning and decision-making skills.
