External Affairs and Communication Expert - DRC

 

What this position is about – Purpose

 

This role focuses on supporting the development and implementation of JTI’s corporate affairs and communications strategy in the DRC, through direct engagement with government entities, regulators, trade associations, media, and civil society. The External Affairs Specialist is key in monitoring the external environment, supporting advocacy activities, and helping maintain JTI’s license to operate in a complex and challenging environment.

 

What will you do? Responsibilities:

 

  • Support the identification, mapping, and management of key stakeholders. Prepare briefing materials and accompany the Corporate Affairs Director in external meetings. Help ensure regular contact with government agencies, legislative bodies, media and industry groups
  • Track and analyze political, legislative, and regulatory developments that may affect the business.
  • Draft internal alerts and updates on issues related to fiscal policy, illicit trade, tobacco regulation, and broader business environment
  • Assist in the development of advocacy tools (position papers, presentations, briefing notes).
  • Contribute to the design and execution of advocacy campaigns and engagements with targeted stakeholders
  • Organism and manage events relevant to public policy and regulatory affairs.
  • Ensure timely reporting of external affairs activities.
  • Maintain internal records of stakeholder engagements, outcomes, and next steps.

 

Who are we looking for? Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, Law, communication, journalism or a related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in external affairs, government relations, public policy, or regulatory affairs. Experience in a multinational or highly regulated industry is preferred
  • Strong communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and interact with senior stakeholders. Familiarity with DRC’s political and regulatory environment.
