Leaf Processing Shift Lead
This role leads the planning, execution, oversight, and performance of operational plans in the Green Leaf Threshing factory, fostering a strong culture of quality work, health and safety, environmental responsibility, and energy efficiency. It ensures the factory has skilled personnel, clear instructions and guidelines, and the necessary tools and equipment to meet regulatory and management system requirements. The role also drives efficient resource use, robust processes, awareness and controls, and continuous learning across its operations.
As the Leaf Processing Shift Lead in the area of Processing Management/Support, you will:
Production and Quality Management
- Execute the processing plan to meet defined targets for safety, quality, yield, and productivity, embedding IWS routines to sustain standard work and visual performance management.
- Use IWS daily management (tier meetings, centerline checks, and visual boards) to continuously monitor Plan vs. Target at shift level, trigger problem‑solving, and rapidly correct deviations from standards.
- Apply IWS standards (5S3R, autonomous maintenance, and standard operating procedures) to prevent defects before they occur and stabilize process conditions.
- Implement and rigorously enforce contamination controls and NTRM prevention across all steps—receiving, conditioning, threshing, separation, and packing—supported by IWS checks, layered audits, and escalation protocols.
- Drive continuous improvement by capturing losses, conducting root‑cause analysis, and closing actions through IWS kaizen cycles, ensuring learnings are built into updated standards and operator training.
Production Data Accountability
- Ensure end-to-end tobacco accountability are executed to maintain a complete audit trail and uphold data integrity and accuracy.
- Verify that green tobacco issued to the processing line, final packed product, and NTMs taken from stores are properly controlled, reconciled, and recorded.
Occupational Healthy and Safety Management
- Ensure employees health and safety and minimize environmental impacts through:
- Applying all EHS work instructions consistently.
- Conducting regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Implementing control measures and action plans to mitigate identified risks.
- Assessing the team’s EHS training needs and ensuring training to build competency.
- Enforcing disciplinary actions when safety requirements are breached.
Environmental Management
- Maintain a clean, well‑organized factory in line with 5S3R standards, embedding IWS routines to sustain housekeeping and visual management.
- Record all waste streams and dispose of them in designated areas according to global processes developed by JTI, using IWS checks to ensure compliance and continual improvement.
Energy Management
- Optimize machine operation schedules to align production demand, minimizing idle time, start‑up/shutdown losses and overall conversion costs through:
- Proactive Preventive Maintenance Management
- Real‑time monitoring: track kWh per ton processed and kW demand, and use dashboards to trigger corrective actions.
- Standards and SOPs: apply startup/shutdown and standby SOPs, power‑factor optimization, and lighting/HVAC controls.
- Governance and engagement: set targets, review performance routinely, and train operators to recognize and act on energy‑waste conditions.
People Management
- Recruit, energize, and coach both direct and indirect team members, guiding their professional growth while consistently role‑modeling and embedding JTI Our Way values in hiring decisions, day‑to‑day motivation, performance management, and career development.
Requirements:
- Bachelor or Master's Degree in Sciences or Engineering
- 5 years in tobacco processing industry and be hands on
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office
- Analytical skills - analyze provided data and act accordingly
