About the Position

 

Due to continued growth, the Intellectual Property (IP) team is looking for an experienced Patent Manager to manage patent related matters, working with various teams involved in the product development lifecycle.

The Patent Manager will support the continued rapid development of JTI’s patent portfolio and assist our business in bringing to market new RRPs after all necessary clearance and capture of IP rights has been performed. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Capture proactively innovation by way of patent rights.
  • Perform FTO searches and opinions with a view to reporting key FTO points and conclusions to cross-functional teams.
  • Extensive collaboration with R&D, Supply Chain and Commercial teams.
  • Work with a network of local patent counsel to strategically drive prosecution of the patent portfolio.
  • Support the Patent Director to put in place mitigation strategies to manage patent infringement risk.
  • Participate in discussions aimed at generating new ideas to develop and reinforce the patent portfolio.
  • Increase patent knowledge and awareness among other functions in JTI.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • A University degree (advanced degree preferred) and experience in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • At least 2 years post patent attorney qualification (e.g. EQE) experience in similar position with specific knowledge of Patent Law.
  • Experience in handling innovation in the field of mechanical, electronics or computer implemented inventions and in participating in ideation sessions.
  • Experience and knowledge of FMCG and/or Medical Device Technologies is a plus.
  • Experience with advanced technical and patent databases such as PatBase, Questel Orbit, Thomson Innovation/Clarivate, NexisLexis, and Innography. 

 

Skills, Competencies & Languages

  • Strong technical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to summarize concisely key aspects of inventions and infringement risk to an audience with varied degrees of technical skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • A strong team player passionate about technology and innovation.
  • Excellent time management skills and dependable in completing quality projects against challenging deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • This role requires multinational business environment understanding and ability to work cross-functionally. In addition, team spirit, creativity, and strong communication skills are expected.
