About the position

Your role will be essential to maximize business opportunities using patent information by identifying new potential partners, anticipating threats, and flagging industry technology trends. You will be expected to manage the analysis of complex third-party patent and design portfolios and to extract key information that contributes to ring-fence key attributes of our future products, de-risk our product developments and identify patent exploitation opportunities. You will also be expected to manage a team of patent analysts and to coach them to grow their technical and soft skills.

You and your team will work on a varied range of projects to action key extracted information together with patent attorneys in other teams within the IP department, Engineering, Commercial and Research and Development teams. Your team will be expected to drive these projects.

This is an exciting and highly strategic role for someone with experience in analyzing patent and design portfolios and extracting key information, as well as for someone experienced in managing a team. You must bring with you core patent skills applied to the evaluation of technology and soft skills to coach and develop your team.


What you will actually do?

  • You will lead the strategic monitoring, review and analysis of third-party patents to contribute to assess the third party patent landscape and take actions thereupon.
  • You will identify critical business needs on patent information and define a strategy to deliver on those needs in an agile yet sustainable manner.
  • You will lead the identification of technology areas to occupy/ring-fence patent spaces and manage workshops with key experts to maximize opportunities to capture innovations to contribute to grow our patent portfolio.
  • You will manage IT tools and service providers to analyze and share patent information amongst the IP department and key stakeholders. You will manage IT tools and service providers to analyze and share patent information amongst the IP department and key stakeholders.
  • You will coach and develop team members to ensure their full development as in-house patent specialists, building both on their technical and soft skills, instilling proactive patent culture aimed at maximizing patent protection and risk mitigation.


Who are we looking for?

You as a professional:

  • You have minimum five years’ work experience with IP portfolio management and analytics tools.
  • You have strong experience in evaluating the patentability of inventions.
  • You have a strong command of IP software, computer-accessible patent databases and related process skills.
  • You have solid working experience in an in-house IP department or in consultancy. Having solid experience in both is a plus.
  • You have working experience as a team leader.
  • You have a University Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics or Physics.
  • Being a qualified Patent Attorney is a strong plus.

  • You are commercially-minded and a strategic thinker.
  • You demonstrate understanding of multinational business environments and are capable to work in a diverse environment.
  • You have great interpersonal and communication skills at all levels in the organization.
  • You are a team leader that naturally coaches his team to unveil their potential.
  • You speak English fluently. A good command of Chinese and/or German is a plus.
