Procurement Capital Equipment Manager

 

 

GSC Procurement serves as a key function within the broader Global Supply Chain Group, driving efficient and strategic sourcing across Non-Tobacco Materials, Logistics, Capital Equipment, and Spare Parts. By fostering strong supplier partnerships, conducting competitive bidding, and aligning with business stakeholders, it ensures cost-effective procurement, supply continuity, and operational excellence - while actively promoting innovation and sustainability throughout its practices.

 

The Procurement Capital Equipment Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the cost-effective, compliant, and high-quality sourcing of capital equipment and associated services. This position is also responsible for scouting and promoting supplier-led innovation, contributing directly to the company’s long-term strategic goals.

The role involves leading strategic procurement activities for approximately $200 million in capital equipment spend, reporting to the Director of Capital Equipment Procurement. It requires strong analytical, negotiation, and strategic thinking skills, as well as the ability to navigate complex challenges and build robust cross-functional relationships with key internal stakeholders such as R&D and Global Supply Chain (GSC).

This position is instrumental in: managing key supplier and stakeholder relationships, driving cross-functional collaboration, negotiating major contracts, developing and executing procurement strategies in alignment with broader Global Supply Chain functions, and championing procurement excellence and innovation.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

Category management:

• Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop Category Strategies for capital equipment and ensure their effective deployment across the organization.

• Consistently meet defined targets for Capital Equipment negotiations.

Suppliers management:

• Manage strategic supplier relationships, engaging directly with senior-level management to foster alignment, drive performance, and support long-term partnership goals.

• Lead supplier bidding processes in close collaboration with relevant departments to secure the best possible combination of quality, cost, and service conditions for Capital Equipment and Services.

• Oversee high-level coordination between local purchasing and engineering teams, providing critical support in resolving bottlenecks related to lead times, quality issues, and other operational challenges.

Contract management:

• Negotiate high-value contracts while ensuring optimal and sustainable supply conditions.

• Develop and manage global agreements, including Master Supply Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements, Intellectual Property Agreements, and Exclusivity Agreements.

• Provide strategic support to factory purchasing processes, with a particular focus on the contractual, financial, and physical flows associated with equipment procurement.

Cross-functional collaboration:

• Facilitate clear and effective communication across global business functions, JTI Group entities, and external suppliers.

• Oversee high-level coordination between local purchasing and engineering teams.

Projects:

• Lead a diverse range of supplier-facing projects focused on introducing new technologies, resolving existing technical, quality, or service-related issues, and enhancing collaboration.

• Contribute to internal procurement initiatives aimed at strengthening the group’s capabilities in areas such as digitalization, innovation, Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), and process simplification.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Master's Degree preferably in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field
  • At least 10 years in Procurement, with 5+ years in a Procurement Management role
  • Solid business judgment and strategic acumen, with the ability to anticipate the broader impact of decisions and initiatives across the organization.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with proven expertise in negotiation and conflict management
  • Strong communication capabilities- including clear, persuasive presentation skills- are required, as is the ability to coach and develop others 
  • Experience in collaborating with technical teams such as R&D and Engineering is critical, paired with a genuine interest in technology and innovation
  • Capability of driving business process improvements and contributing to strategic initiatives
  • A sound understanding of basic financial, accounting principles, and taxation implications is necessary
  • Contract creation and management in a complex IP environment
  • Cross-functional collaboration—particularly with factories and operational teams—is vital, and the role calls for a team-oriented mindset that fosters alignment and shared success across departments
  • This position involves occasional travel, and geographic mobility is preferred to support global business needs
