Leaf Procurement Assistant

What is this role about?

This role involves overseeing leaf point operations, managing data in Excel, and organizing green leaf testing databases. Responsibilities include CPA testing data organization, GAP certification monitoring, and operating testing devices at the Danville station. The role requires strong grower communication skills, agronomic knowledge, and problem diagnosis/solving abilities. Additional responsibilities include coordinating university research, organizing grower visits, and ensuring compliance with global sustainability standards. This position involves inputting grower contracts, conducting weekly crop reports, managing different tobacco type incentive payment distributions, and managing organic certification processes. Travel amongst JTI buying stations and communication with the global CPA team are also requirements within this role.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support JTI Leaf Services in developing strong relations with the tobacco growers by visiting growers and assisting them in resolving agronomic issues. Ensure that the growers supply JTI Leaf Services with the highest quality tobacco. Obtain necessary records from growers to ensure GAP, ALP and contract compliance.
  • Help coordinate the Green Leaf Testing (GLT) program according to company guidelines. This includes ensuring that sampling materials are provided to buying stations, relevant personnel are trained appropriately, ensuring all samples are properly submitted to the testing facility in a timely manner, maintaining GLT records and spreadsheets, and reporting any issues or discrepancies to the Agronomy Team.Assume accountable for assigned task and ensure they are completed in a timely, professional and safe manner, eliminating possibility of downtime or requiring rework of task. Provide feedback to managers concerning improvements to reduce downtime or equipment failure while helping to reduce cost and improve the overall efficiency of the processing facility.
  • Attend tobacco industry related meetings, tours and conferences to keep up with the latest news, information and best practices in the industry.     
  • Assist the Leaf Procurement Team with administrative tasks, such as reporting spreadsheets, contracts and other document preparation, presentations, and other support as needed.    
  • Manage various tasks and projects as they arise and upon manager’s request.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree undergraduate in Agriculture, Life Sciences or related field.
  • Must be fluent in English with excellent writing and oral skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams). 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse group of colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team.
