JTI Leaf Services (US) LLC is opening a permanent position for a Financial Reporting & Accounting Associate based in Danville, VA.
 
The Financial Reporting & Accounting Associate supports the Leaf Finance Manager in all finance related tasks occurring in within the JTI US Leaf Organization.  The incumbent prepares the month end closing and the quarterly reporting packages.  Creates analysis of general ledger accounts as a basis for presentation and decision making and ensures clean accounting books. The Financial Reporting & Accounting Associate also takes responsibility for all intercompany charges (excluding HR). Controls the accounting process for Fixed Assets, ensuring correct depreciation methodology is utilized for statutory, group and tax accounting.

Furthermore, the incumbent supports the accounts payable process by analyzing GR/IR and communicates any correction required. Completes all associated JSOX controls as appropriate and in a timely manner. 


 
Main responsibilities:
•    Actual Reporting 

  • Control and Reconciliation of General Ledger Records.  General ledger records are sent to the incumbent who checks the templates for accuracy and completeness. The incumbent ensures the timely processing of submitted postings and controls the correct recording in the system. The incumbent reconciles subledgers and key accounts to self-created overviews and documentations. 
  • Analysis of GL accounts.  The incumbent prepares analysis of general ledger accounts on a regular basis which are business critical due to their quantity and/or quality of postings, such as in other accruals, BPC accounts, accounts with unspecified character (“other”) and other.  Also prepares adhoc analysis for the management, tax advisors and auditors.
  • Liaison with operational units.  The incumbent liaises with internal departments and external stakeholders in all accounting matters. Also acts as contact/advisor in expense reporting matters. 
  • Maintain financial statement and SAP roles.  The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance of the financial statement. Requests new accounts, amends master data of accounts and changes the mapping. Single point of contact for requesting of new SAP roles.

•    Financial Closing 

  • Month End Closing process.  The incumbent supports the Leaf Finance Manager and coordinates the month end closing steps and communicates to all involved parties. To ensure a smooth and clean month end close, creates calculations and analysis, such as BPC, other accruals, GR/IR, tax accruals and other. These calculations and overviews are the basis for further postings and corrections, if needed, and considered as supporting documentation.  
  • Quarterly Reporting Packages.  The incumbent supports the Leaf Finance Manager and prepares the required pages of the quarterly reporting package. Analyzes the relevant accounts and collects the required information from different departments. This person also acts as contact for queries by Corporate Accounting and coordinates with all involved parties.

•    Accounts Receivable

  • Account Receivable management.  The incumbent checks the customer accounts for overdue items on a regular base and manages the debt collection process. Single point of contact for all accounting related questions by customers.
  • Account Receivable accounting.  The incumbent prepares analysis of open items and develops recommendations as a base for further accounting decisions, such as write-offs, provisions for bad debts, credit limits, etc.

•    Intercompany Charges

  • The incumbent is the single point of contact for all intercompany charges, with exemption of confidential HR charges. Summarizes the information and prepares necessary documentation (e.g. BPC overview, regional expense cost charge, STA, etc.). Creates the I/C charge template accordingly and liaises the posting entries with the counterparts and with Global Leaf Finance, if required.

•    Accounts Payable

  •  Accounts Payable & GR/IR controlling.  The incumbent analyses the GR/IR accounts for any issues and takes action for corrections needed. If necessary, contacts the respective PR/PO creators and advises how to solve identified issues. Also checks the vendor accounts for overdue payments on a regular base.
  • Vendor Contact.  The incumbent acts as single point of contact in regards to any issues from the invoice payment process.

    JSOX Controls.

  •  Review and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual JSOX controls. Perform walkthroughs as needed and ensure full compliance with Internal Controls.

•    Fixed Assets

  •  Oversees Fixed Asset accounting entries for statutory, group and tax matters. Performs physical asset audits and compares to book values. Ensures correct useful years of life are chosen when capitalizing based on JTI's Accounting manual. Ensure assets are tagged as they are put into production. 

 

Requirements:
•    Education: University degree in finance /Chartered Accountant.
•    Professional experience: General Ledger accounting experience. Ability to utilize Microsoft software.
•    Fluency in the English language; good knowledge in MS Office tools (especially data analysis with Excel) and first experiences in ERP systems (SAP R/3)
•    Strong interpersonal, customer service, communication, detail and follow-up skills
•    Ability to work independently and self-directed
•    Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis and problem-solving skills
