Cell Lead

 

The Cell Lead is essential in managing daily operations within a leaf processing cell, ensuring that tobacco-packed products meet quality standards and optimizing production to achieve departmental KPIs. This role involves overseeing safety, quality, throughput, downtime, volume and yield, while being responsible for the cell’s performance 24/7. The Cell Lead also focuses on team development, implementing integrated work system (IWS) standards, and maintaining effective communication between factory management and direct reports.

 

Main areas of responsibility:

 

  • Cell Results
    24-hour multi-shift accountability for the cell results including safety, quality, throughput, downtime, volume and yield. 
  • Action Plans
    Develops short-term (24-hour) and mid-term (<90 days) action plans together with their Cell Team. Defines priorities for the Cell Team and allocates resources to support the plan. 
  • Daily Management Systems (DMS)
    Establish, maintain and improve the effectiveness of Daily Management Systems (DMS) and supporting tools for their Cell. Responsible for the Daily Direction Setting. Owner of Cell DDS, responsible for DDS findings follow-up and ensuring their execution.
  • EHS
    Full adherence to JTI Safety standards and procedures during daily routines and activities. Know and identify hazards, evaluate risks, know and ensure that control measures are implemented, in order to maintain a healthy and safe workplace for themselves and subordinate employees. Ensure that employees have the necessary qualifications and training related to workplace health and safety and that they have the competence to work safely. Know legal and JTI health and safety requirements related to workplace hazards, observe all applicable health and safety norms and procedures and ensure conformity in relation to these. Actively demonstrate a commitment to health and safety and take immediate measures to correct unsafe working conditions or behaviors. Ensure that employees always demonstrate safe behavior, do not infringe any health and safety norms and report accidents and incidents, in order to remove identified unsafe conditions and behaviors. 
  • People management 
    Recruit, motivate and guide the professional development of the team reporting directly and indirectly to the incumbent. Develop and train the cell team, to make them self-sufficient 24 hours a day, with shift changes and efficient results. Coach team members of assigned cell in line with IWS principles, ensuring IWS methodology is in place, properly executed and lived daily to achieve the operational objectives.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Business Administration, or 10 years experience in the tobacco industry. 
  • Minimum experience of 5 years in the function in the area of tobacco processing and preferably experience in any position of supervision of people, preferably as Supervisor of Production and Maintenance; knowledge in problem-solving methods, root cause analysis, statistical process control and ISO standards.
  • Fluency in English, with excellent written and oral skills. Appropriate communication skills with internal and external individuals. Common skills in PC (MS Office applications), SAP and preferred knowledge in the production planning process, budget preparation and planning and maintenance processes.
  • Management skills such as leading and mentoring people. Demonstrate great leadership skills and ability to talk in public. Capable of working in a diversified team environment, to manage multiple tasks timely and with proactivity.  Good understanding of FCV and Burley tobacco leaf characteristics. Knowledge of machine building, machine maintenance, all functions of particular parts and their cross dependencies.
