Head of Government Relations 

 

As the Head of Government Relations in the area of Corporate Affairs & Communications, you will be doing the following:

  • Recommends, plans, develops and implements Government Relations programs, interacting with the political and regulatory environment based on the guidelines agreed with the CA&C Director, in order to deploy the Corporate and Regional strategies in the Bangladesh market.
  • Ensures the timely, effective and consistent presentation of JTI positions, views and potential solutions.
  • Liaises with the CA&C Director and the relevant functions of JTI SA for the local deployment and implementation of global and regional projects at local level.
  • Proposes and manages the budget allocated for the area of responsibility assigned and ensures the correct management, monitoring and variances analyses of the budget assigned, in compliance with JTI policies and procedures.
  • Monitors, analyses and assesses political and legislative developments to anticipate changes or trends in the Operating Environment, which may affect JTI's business, supported by the dedicated staff as well as by external consultants. 
    Secures an immediate communication of the above mentioned developments to the CA&C Director and, when required, JTI Bangladesh Excom members and JTI Regional Management.
  • Supervises the preparation of analyses and background materials, based on the understanding of regulatory measures and amendments (on topics such as Anti Illicit Trade, etc.) and relevant potential criticalities that may affect JTI's business. Provides adequate and timely information to management in order to support the strategic decision-making process.
  • Supervises the preparation of weekly and monthly reporting on approved regulations, legislation changes, etc. both for JTI Bangladesh and JTI SA as required.
  • Identifies and suggests the optimal way in terms of channel and timing for JTI to present its views and positions or to provide concrete and meaningful solutions, based on an in-depth knowledge of the political and legislative process, including the mechanisms through which draft laws and other regulatory instruments are designed, introduced and debated. Coordinates and supervises the activities of Public Affairs/Public Relations consultants and cooperates with internal/external legal counsel on Corporate Affairs-related dossiers.
  • Supports the CA&C Director in maintaining positive relationships with key external influencers and advocating JTI views and positions with political and government representatives, to ensure effective communication to key stakeholders in support of the JTI business.
  • Coordinates and supervises the creation and maintenance of an up-to-date stakeholder map for the market, which identifies the key political and regulatory stakeholders, to monitor and assess the development of public and regulatory policies.
  • Plans and coordinates an appropriate ongoing contact program with institutional/political/cultural and other companies representatives to strengthen JTI network. Represents the company in formal occasions when requested.
  • Supports the company in its anti-illicit trade activities in the Bangladesh market:
    • Monitor the legislative environment to ensure that any changes to the current norms regarding illicit trade are communicated promptly to management, if possible in advance of implementation.
    • Provide support to AITO colleagues where necessary for the engagement programs, ensuring that corporate and local activities are perfectly aligned and complementary.

 

Who are we looking for?

  • University degree (Law, Political Sciences preferably)
  • Minimum 10 years in a similar role with large international companies; it is highly desirable a previous 3-year experience either in roles involving
  • Government Relations and Public Affairs
  • Bangla. Fluent English.
  • High level stakeholder engagement in civil, law enforcement, and military bureaucracy. Good understanding of Bangladesh's political structure and main political actors, government process and protocol, intimate familiarity with the civil service functioning
