As a Technical Operations Associate (Engineer), you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely fault‑finding, repair, and maintenance of a wide range of electromechanical equipment across the automated warehouse. This mechatronics‑focused role supports both reactive and planned maintenance activities, helping to maximise asset availability, performance, and operational safety within a highly automated environment. Joining a small team of electromechanical engineers, a strong team working, problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset are essential.
You will work 36 hours per week on day shifts - typical working patterns are 07:00–16:00 or 08:00–17:00 Mon-Fri. Occasional flexibility may be required to support operational needs
Position
As a Technical Operations Associate, you will:
- Diagnose and resolve electromechanical faults across automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), including high‑ and low‑bay stacker cranes, chain conveyors, roller conveyors, and other in‑line automated equipment

Carry out effective repairs and corrective actions- such as equipment resets, component replacement, adjustments, and practical engineering solutions, in a safe and timely manner

Demonstrate strong electrical/electromechanical bias, including the ability to safely work with complex electrical systems, using systematic fault‑finding techniques to resolve issues

Support ancillary automation systems and PLC networks, conducting troubleshooting and corrective actions where possible

Coordinate and manage external contractors for servicing and third‑line support, ensuring all work is completed safely, on time, to standard, and in full compliance with site health and safety policies

Perform preventative maintenance activities to improve asset reliability, performance, and longevity

Manage and maintain appropriate stock levels of spare parts to support efficient fault resolution

Maintain high housekeeping standards across all engineering areas, equipment zones, and workspaces

Support administrative tasks including maintaining accurate service records, contributing to risk assessments, assisting with purchasing administration, and completing other required documentation

Provide wider technical support to projects, trials, and continuous improvement activities as required

Demonstrate a strong continuous improvement mindset, actively identifying opportunities to enhance reliability, reduce downtime, and improve operational performance

Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, supporting fault‑finding, problem‑solving, and ensuring effective communication across teams

Be fully committed to a strong Health & Safety culture, actively supporting improvement initiatives and consistently working safely at all times
Requirements
- Five GCSE's at Grade C/4 or above including Maths & English or equivalent
- Level 3 NVQ Electrical qualification (or equivalent) is essential
- Current IET Wiring Regulations certification (e.g. 18th Edition or latest equivalent)
- Experience working with automation and/or robotics within an industrial, manufacturing, or material‑handling environment essential
- Ability and willingness to work at height is essential
- Basic understanding/familiarity with controls systems and/or PLC communications
- Ability to diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults, using a logical, analytical approach
- Competence in reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical technical drawings
- Proficient in the safe use of a wide range of hand and power tools
- Fluent in spoken and written English, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work effectively on own initiative
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with the confidence to engage with internal teams and external suppliers
- Computer literacy essential (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); report‑writing skills beneficial
Desirable/Advantageous:
- HNC/HND/ONC in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Engineering
- Experience with controls engineering and/or PLC communications within automated or robotic warehouse environments
- Working at Height / CRD Rescue training
- IPAF and/or FLT licence
- Additional electromechanical or automation‑related qualifications
