What this position is about - Purpose:
You will act as a regional/National resource in order for Company objectives to be met. This may include :- Coverage of a Business Adviser's Ground, a New Product Launch, a geographical hot spot activity. This may require frequent staying away from home overnight at times for several weeks at a time with a minimum of a 2 week notice period for business-critical activities or a standard of a 4 week notice period for any other business activity.
You will visit a number of shops a day which sell tobacco and nicotine products, these include supermarkets, petrol stations, local independent shops and Cash and Carry’s all within a specific area. By developing relationships with the shops' decision makers, you will share the commercial benefits and importance of the availability and range of our products.
A typical visit will include ensuring product availability, selling the commercial benefits of JTI products, educating shop staff, negotiating Trading Agreements and problem solving, however, activities can vary depending on the type of retailer. In some shops there will be the opportunity to sell in physical JTI products.
By proactively planning your workload based on business objectives, you will work towards weekly, monthly and annual targets. Your ability to analyse and accurately record data from the shops is key to inform the planning of your future activities.
What will you do - Responsibilities:
Field Activities
You will be Field Based and work as an agile team across a region (either North or South) primarily or nationally on occasions to undertake a variety of activities depending on the business priorities and objectives.
Negotiation and Selling
You will build relationships with shop owners and educate them on JTI products, use your negotiation and influencing skills to sell physical products directly to the shop owner and create Trading Agreements to drive availability of JTI products. You will use the Triple Win approach during the selling process showing the benefits of what JTI has to offer to both the retailer & their consumers and ensure the point of sale staff are fully aware of the correct tobacco assortment and the importance of product availability. You will proactively predict and handle objections and tactically use business information (JTI and retailer) to strengthen selling arguments, for example informing the retailer on performance versus agreement terms.
Retailer Education
Educate and influence the retailer and regional shop owners on the best way to manage the tobacco category. You will work with shop staff to identify where products are out of stock to help ensure they are available, educate shop staff on JTI brands and ensure our products are on shelf in the correct position.
Data Collection and Analysis
You will collect data in stores (pricing and distribution) and analyse factual data from your ground to support local knowledge and identify opportunities for future planning, monitor competitor, retailer and all category activity (not just Tobacco category) in store and collects Pricing information for Tobacco Category.
Budget management
Deliver against set budgets for your ground (as agreed with line manager). Identify, execute and evaluate commercial opportunities using trading agreements to maximise account performance and deliver profitable share growth, utilising tools such as Volume Agreements, Verbalisation & Price Contribution Payments where applicable.

- Self-motivated and able to use judgement and initiative
- Able to demonstrate initiative and a positive ‘can do’ attitude
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential
- Full manual or automatic driving licence is required, with no more than 3 penalty points
