Operational Customs Specialist

 

Purpose:

 

To ensure customs and tax compliance across import and export operations by managing all related documentation, processes, and governmental coordination. The role involves extracting relevant data from SAP, working closely with related teams to prepare and close customs declarations, and ensuring timely regulatory clearances. Operating within national regulations and internal standards, this position supports smooth material flow while minimizing compliance risks and delays.

 

Main areas of responsibility:

Support the achievement of departmental and factory-wide KPIs related to incoming shipments (LEAF, NTM, SP, FG), inventory accuracy, stock availability, write-off avoidance, and logistics cost control, through the following:

 

  •        Execute action plans assigned by the direct superior or relevant KPI owners
  •        Proactively work to avoid extra logistics costs, including demurrage, detention, and port storage, by ensuring timely customs clearance and accurate documentation
  •        Provide timely and constructive feedback or suggestions for process and cost improvements
  •        Ensure accurate and timely reporting on customs-related activities impacting KPI performance
  •        Actively contribute to factory projects and cross-functional KPI initiatives, collaborating with other departments as needed 

     

Tasks performed may include (but are not limited to)

 

  •        Manage customs declarations for leaf and finished goods, including document preparation and closure using extracted SAP data, in coordination with related teams and ISTD
  •        Validate and update tariff codes and declared prices in alignment with customs requirements.
  •        Oversee destruction processes for tobacco waste and non-tradable materials (NTM) in compliance with ISTD regulations
  •        Process and follow up on contractor invoice exemptions through the Jordan Investment Commission
  •        Secure necessary approvals from relevant authorities such as the Food and Drug Association and the Ministry of Agriculture

 

Continuous Improvement

 

  •        Actively participate in continuous improvement activities in the factory, with Governmental bodies
  •        Openly communicate with superiors for any improvement opportunities
  •        Submit improvement suggestions according to the local/global procedure

 

Compliance with Policies & Procedures and Regulations

 

  •        Comply with global/regional/local Safety policies & procedures, regulatory requirements
  •        Openly initiate dialogues with a person who does not comply with JTI policies & procedures
  •        Comply with department/team processes, policies, and procedures

 

Support and Collaboration 

 

  •        Support JT Group factories as needed/requested
  •        Provide necessary information to related functions (globally, locally) in a timely manner
  •        Attend and actively contribute to factory meetings

 

Team Work 

 

  •        Support other team members voluntarily 
  •        Self-assess skills and knowledge, and develop a self-study plan
  •        Share your knowledge with other employees after training

 

Other 

  •      Execute business objectives (dialogue) agreed with the manager
  •      Manage various tasks and projects as they arise and upon the manager’s request

 

 

Requirements: 

 

  •        High School diploma or equivalent, University Graduate in Logistics , industrial Engineering, or Business Administration is a plus
  •        Fluent in  Arabic, Intermediate English
  •        Communication skills
  •        Familiarity with Tobacco laws, instructions & processes
  •        Experience with SAP and Excel is an advantage; eager to adapt to new technologies
