Scandinavia Tax Manager

 

What this position is about - Purpose:

 

In this position, you will be responsible for managing and controlling Indirect and Direct tax in Scandinavia (Sweden market and Nordic Snus factory, Denmark, Norway and Baltics) in line with the company´s policies and procedures. This requires in-depth knowledge of relevant laws and regulations to ensure continuous compliance with country legislation including expertise on Sweden's RRP and Oral taxation. The responsibility also includes providing external and internal timely, accurate, and relevant tax reporting. You should manage the relationship with external tax advisors for compliance and other consulting activities. You will be in charge of handling tax audits and requirements from governmental authorities. You will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulation and assess the impact on JTI.  Other responsibilities include governance and review to ensure efficient internal processes concerning tax.

 

What will you do - Responsibilities:

 

In this role, you will:

 

  • be responsible for Indirect and Direct taxes in the Scandinavian and Baltic markets (including Nordic Snus factory) to support the business in timely and accurate decision-making and communication with authorities
  • monitor any regulatory or legislative changes in the Indirect and Direct tax areas and report to Global Tax,  Local management, and relevant functions
  • proactively follow up on tax developments that may impact the Scandinavian and Baltic business, assist in broader business development activities, provide assistance and support to other departments as needed
  • be the Key contact for external tax consultants  and manage tax consultancy budgets
  • review excise tax returns, import duty processes, and claims related to import duties and taxes including Nordic Snus factory
  • manage the customs and excise authorizations in the markets of the Cluster and for Nordic Snus
  • handle audits and excise tax requirements with authorities as well as customs broker(s)
  • ensure accurate quarterly/annual reporting packages to headquarters and provision calculations/reconciliations (including sign-off of tax accounting and tax reports as well as business support and guidance to ensure correctness)
  • Maintain policies and procedures governing the indirect tax processes and implement/ maintain appropriate internal controls concerning the same, including processes for Snus/Oral in both market and factory
  • be responsible for internal direct tax reporting
  • support and input for liquidity forecasts and FCF management/planning as well as follow-up on deviations related to tax
  • be responsible for external tax reporting to the relevant authorities in each country (also includes preparation of yearly tax returns and tax calculations for the Annual reports) 
  • be responsible for transfer pricing documentation and transfer price calculations in Scandinavia, in close cooperation with JTI Global tax
  • review and control the internal business processes to capture, highlight, and report potential tax risks to Global Tax, Local management, and relevant functions
  • support internal business flow improvements from a tax perspective to minimize tax risks/exposure, as well as coordinate and support the risk management process for Scandinavia and Baltics
  • participate in cross-functional projects

 

Who are we looking for - Requirements:

 

  • University- or college degree in Finance/ Business administration or Law, minimum 5 years of work experience in relevant Tax/Finance roles
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience within Tax/accounting and/or in big 4 advisory firms or similar. Experience of working in an international company and with international reporting 
  • Fluent in Swedish and English
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office especially Powerpoint and Excel. Previous experience in SAP is a plus
